Louisville native D'Angelo Russell had quite a day on Sunday. Hours before the Lakers took on the Minnesota Timberwolves, Russell learned that his grandmother had passed away. Despite the circumstances the former Louisville Central Yellow Jacket & Ohio State Buckeye told the team he still wanted to play.
With the Lakers trailing 109-107, Russell buried a game winning three to give L.A. their fourth straight victory.
“I knew that’s what my grandma would have wanted,” Russell said. “My dad, brothers and everyone wanted me to play. I wanted to get away from basketball. I didn’t want to express myself through basketball, but it was [the] only option I had and I tried to take advantage of it.”
As you could expect, Russell was pretty emotional following the game.
