An NFL team has signed a free agent who shares his name with Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Jordan.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced the signing of Michael Jordan, a sixth-year guard, along with first-year tackle Tyler McLellan, to fill a depth void on the offensive line on their official website Friday (July 25). Jordan, 27, started 11 games for the New England Patriots during the 2024 season, having previously made 10 starts in 28 games for the Carolina Panthers from 2021 to 2022 and 19 starts in 27 games for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2020, while also spending the 2023 season on the Green Bay Packers' practice squad.
Jordan was selected by the Bengals at No. 136 overall in the fourth-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The Buccaneers waived tackle Silas Dzansi with a failed-physical designation and already had one spot available after placing tackle Garret Greenfield on the reserve/retired list two days prior.
Michael Jordan, the basketball player, is widely regarded as his sport's all-time greatest athlete, leading the Chicago Bulls to six championships in eight years and becoming the first professional athlete to earn a net worth exceeding $1 billion. The 63-year-old is set to join NBC Sports' relaunched NBA coverage as a "special contributor" next season.
